A Penticton, B.C., couple says they are experiencing “every emotion imaginable,” after winning $75 million on a Lotto Max ticket.
Maureen and Darrell S. were relaxing at home when they saw that the winner of the April 7 draw was someone local.
“I pulled the ticket out and the numbers were lining up,” Darrell said, in a news release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation on Friday.
“We manually referenced the winning tickets online but we needed to check at a terminal.”
The couple, who describe themselves as “outdoorsy people,” plan to celebrate their win with a small gathering of loved ones.
After that, they plan to hit the road, mentioning Europe as a potential travel destination.
“We might rent a camper or maybe take a nice cruise around the world,” Maureen said.
In addition to their travels, the couple plan to donate a substantial portion of their winnings.
“We will be setting a small amount aside for ourselves, and the remaining is allocated to specific charity organizations that are important to us.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Smart Shopper on Main Street in downtown Penticton, and the pair collected their prize at BCLC’s office in Vancouver on Tuesday.
The odds of winning the main Lotto Max jackpot—which requires matching all seven numbers, without using the bonus—are around one in 33.44 million.
