Alberta police say one person is dead following a roadside interaction near the community of Irricana, northeast of Calgary.

Airdrie RCMP say officers were responding to a 911 call on Highway 9, just outside the town, at 6:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers say they located a male suspect, and after an altercation, at least one officer discharged their service weapon.

They say that despite life-saving measures taken at the scene, the man was declared deceased.

No officers were injured in the incident.

In accordance with legislative laws, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team was called in, and the Police Review Commission CEO was notified.
