School bus carrying kids on their way to camp collides with SUV on Hwy 11

A crash involving a school bus shut down Highway 11 just north of Barrie for several hours on Sunday afternoon.

Police say a school bus with children and adults on their way to summer camp collided with an SUV at around 1:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 11 approaching Line 3 South in Oro-Medonte.

Emergency crews are on scene assessing injuries with a few minor ones reported, according to OPP.

The highway was shut down for several hours between Line 2 and Line 3. it was partially reopened at around 6:15 p.m. with traffic able to get through one lane in each direction.

According to authorities, the lane closures are for the safe removal of the bus, clearing of debris and repairing the damaged sections of the guardrail.

Police advise motorists to take alternate routes and expect delays in the area.

As a result of the investigation, the drivers have been charged.
