A tourist who was struck by a cyclist in downtown Vancouver last week has died.

Police said the 72-year-old man who was visiting the city from the United States was hit by the cyclist near the intersection of West Cordova and Richards streets.

The crash happened at around 5:30 p.m. on June 29.

The man was knocked unconscious and taken to Vancouver General Hospital with critical injuries. His wife was also struck and suffered minor injuries.

An update Wednesday from the Vancouver Police Department said the man succumbed to his injuries on July 5.

Police are still investigating the crash, which they said occurred in a marked crosswalk where the pedestrians had the right of way.

The cyclist was not hurt and remained at the scene following the collision, police said.
