Farooq Sheikh, the former chief of the Regina Police Service (RPS), is appealing his dismissal, according to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
In a statement to CTV News Wednesday, the commission confirmed it had received an appeal from Sheikh.
“The appeal will be heard by a three-member panel and will be determined in accordance with the Commission’s statutory responsibilities,” the statement read.
“There is no fixed timeline for a decision following the completion of the hearing. A written decision will be issued once the Commission has made its determination.”
The matter between Sheikh and the Regina Board of Police Commissioners will be heard from Sept. 14 to Sept. 17 and Sept. 23 to Sept 24. The hearing will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Conference Centre in Regina.
Sheikh was terminated with cause from his position as chief of RPS in October 2025 after an investigation found he engaged in “dishonourable conduct” with a former member of the city’s board of police commissioners.
He had previously been removed from active duty that April after a complaint was submitted to the Public Complaints Commission (PCC).
The investigation pertained to two offences.
In the first, the complainant alleged Sheikh used his position as chief to influence them to vote in favour of amendments to his employment contract.
Additionally, the complainant alleged Sheikh used his influence to remove the complainant from the police board.
These allegations were found to be unsubstantiated.
The PCC found evidence of dishonourable conduct in the case of the second offence, which had to do with inappropriate communications with the police board member.
Speaking to reporters following the announcement of Sheikh’s dismissal, Mayor Chad Bachynski said the investigation revealed evidence that demonstrated a “a significant and continuing lapse in professional judgment” on the chief’s part.
“Overall, the chief did not take responsibility for his conduct. Based on the investigation findings, the board has made the decision to terminate Chief Sheikh’s employment contract with cause,” Bachynski added at the time.
CTV News has reached out to the mayor’s office for further comment.
Sheikh was hired as Regina’s chief of police on Nov. 7, 2023, and assumed the role on Dec. 1 of that year.
Before coming to Regina, Sheikh was the chief of the Alberta Sheriff’s Service.
He also held senior leadership roles with the London Metropolitan Police and West Midland Police in the United Kingdom.
