RCMP are investigating tips from the public after issuing an amber alert for a 6-year-old boy. CTV News Edmonton's Connor Hogg reports.

An Amber Alert issued early Thursday morning for six-year-old Lanakai Morrison has been expanded to northern B.C. and into the Northwest Territories or the Yukon, RCMP say.

Mounties say the boy was taken on Tuesday from the hamlet of Valhalla Centre, roughly 63 kilometres northwest of Grande Prairie, Alta.

The Amber Alert is still in effect for everyone north of Grande Cache, up to Chateh, and within the north and west provincial boundaries.

An updated B.C. emergency alert just after 6 p.m. Thursday says the child may have last been seen in Fort St. John, B.C., around 9:30 a.m.

He is believed to be with his mother, 35-year-old Krista Morrison, her 35-year-old partner Daniel Ludwig and a four-year-old child named Karl Morrison.

Lanakai is described as having a slight build, long brown hair, and brown eyes.

Krista is described as 5′8″ tall, with a medium build, long dark brown hair, and brown eyes.

Ludwig is described as 5′11″ tall, large build, a shaved head and brown eyes. He was previously described as having brown hair.

The four-year-old boy is described as having a slight build, long dirty blonde hair and brown eyes.

The group is believed to be travelling in a 2006 red Ford F350, Alberta licence plate CXW8820.

They were previously driving a 2015 black Toyota Tundra, which RCMP says officers have found, in a Thursday afternoon update.

RCMP Const. Sandra Geiger told CTV News Edmonton the incident stems from a family court order involving Lanakai.

“From what I understand, RCMP were called to assist with the court order, and so from that this incident has transpired,” she said.

Later Thursday, Geiger said RCMP was actively investigating tips from a “highly engaged” public.

Anyone who sees them should not approach and should instead call 911.
