Missing wife of senior killed in northeast Edmonton apartment fire also confirmed dead

Published:

Edmonton police say the 82-year-old wife of an 85-year-old man who died jumping from a burning apartment building has also been confirmed dead.

A second senior has been confirmed dead in the northeast Edmonton apartment fire on Monday evening.

Edmonton police say the 82-year-old woman was the wife of the other confirmed death — an 85-year-old man who jumped from the balcony of the burning apartment.

The other person also previously unaccounted for in the Tuesday aftermath of the fire has been located safe, police confirmed.

Investigators say the fire at 132 Avenue and 82 Street was triggered by a car crash that hit the back of the building and a gas line.

The following explosion sent six people in the three-storey complex to hospital, along with the driver of the vehicle.

On Wednesday, a small memorial depicting a man and woman was set up outside the buildling.
