The body of a 13-year-old boy has been recovered from the water, a day after his younger brother was found near the shore of Nutimik Lake.
“Lac du Bonnet RCMP can confirm that at 7:45 pm, the body of 13-year-old Aaron Au Ramirez has been recovered from the water,” reads a statement issued by Manitoba RCMP.
Mounties said the family was notified, and thanked the supporting agencies and volunteers who assisted in the search for the brothers.
On July 18, RCMP launched a search for Aaron and his brother Maximo, 10, after receiving a report of a possible drowning near Sturgeon Falls Trail. Police said officers learned Maximo had slipped into the fast-moving rapids at Sturgeon Falls, and that Aaron entered the water in an attempt to rescue him.
The search drew assistance from across the province, with RCMP saying efforts would continue until both boys were found. On July 22, Maximo’s body was located approximately 300 yards from Sturgeon Falls by a civilian boat.
In a message read by RCMP earlier Thursday, while the search for Aaron was still underway, the boys’ parents said they are enduring “horrible and unimaginable pain for our children.”
