ST. JOHN’S — A man in Newfoundland is facing new charges related to drunk driving after police confirmed today that a six-year-old boy struck by a vehicle last week in St. John’s had died in hospital.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the 32-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and criminal negligence causing death.
He was expected to appear in court on Thursday.
Police say the accused has also been charged with driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit and dangerous driving causing death.
The fatal collision happened on the night of July 23 at the intersection of Thorburn Road and Larkhall Street in the city’s west end.
Investigators say the driver left the scene before police arrived and the boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
