A man is dead after two planes collided mid-air in Chilliwack, B.C., Monday, according to authorities.
The collision was reported around 5:20 p.m., and the emergency response included local police, search and rescue volunteers, firefighters, and the K9 unit, the Chilliwack RCMP said in a statement Tuesday.
“A small plane was located in a pond,” Mounties said, in the statement.
“The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team attended the scene and located one male deceased victim and the plane. Recovery efforts are currently underway.”
The other plane made it safely back to the airport and none of its occupants were injured, police added.
The Transportation Safety Board has deployed a team of investigators to the site. In a deployment notice, the federal agency said the crash involved two Cessna 172 aircraft.
