A four-year-old child sustained serious injuries Friday evening after Ontario Provincial Police say they were struck by a pickup truck on a private campground access trail near Boland Lake in La Salle Township.
Officers responded to the remote campsite at approximately 6 p.m. on July 31, following a report of the collision.
“The investigation determined that the pickup truck had just begun moving from a parked position when it came into contact with the child,” OPP said in a news release Aug. 5.
The child was transported from the scene by air ambulance for medical treatment.
Police have confirmed the injuries are not life-altering, though specific details have not been released.
“I am unable to share any specifics; however, I can say that the injuries were determined to be non-life-altering,” OPP Const. Kyler Brouwer said in an email to CTV News on Wednesday.
Physician assisted at scene
“A physician who was in the area was flagged down by a responding officer and assisted with the child’s care while preparations were made for transport,” police said.
“OPP would like to thank those who stepped forward to provide immediate assistance and support during this difficult situation,” the force added.
No charges laid
The driver remained at the scene and co-operated fully with investigators.
“Investigators found no evidence that alcohol, drugs, or criminal driving behaviour were factors in the incident,” said OPP.
No charges have been laid.
