The Calgary Fire Department says the driver of a truck that was found partially submerged in the Bow River on Thursday morning is alive.
The vehicle was discovered in the water near the Zoo Bridge just after 6:30 a.m.
A rescue team was dispatched to the vehicle but determined no one was inside.
A hazardous materials truck also responded to assess if the vehicle was leaking any fluids into the water.
A tow truck was used to pull the vehicle out of the water.
Alex Kwan, the fire department’s public information officer, says aquatic rescuers “located a person on an island that is believed to be the driver of the vehicle.”
Kwan says the person was “alert and conscious” and brought to shore where they were assessed by paramedics.
“Our priority is to make sure it’s not a rescue, there’s no one in the vehicle,” he said. “This now transfers over to the Calgary Police Service to look at what preceded this.”
