Two people are facing charges after multiple Calgary-area Costco stores reported being defrauded of more than $30,000 over approximately three months.
It’s alleged that between April 9 and June 30, a woman repeatedly used fraudulent or altered barcodes for lower-cost items when purchasing high-value electronics like desktop computers, TVs, gaming consoles and sound equipment.
Police believe the woman worked with a male accomplice.
On Aug. 1, officers searched a home in the 0 to 100 block of Cornerbrook Manor N.E.
During the search, police seized 302.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine with a street value of $6,048 and digital scales and packaging materials consistent with drug trafficking — as well as multiple instruments used for forgery and fraud, including:
- Credit card manufacturing equipment;
- Credit card scanners;
- Card skimming devices;
- Credit cards that appeared to have been altered;
- 31 credit cards;
- A stolen 65-inch Samsung television;
- Two receipt printing machines; and
- False identification documents.
A 41-year-old woman is facing 70 charges and a 39-year-old man is facing 119 charges.
