U.S. victim drowns near Parry Sound

One person is dead after a boat capsized in Georgian Bay. OPP say a 67-year-old California man was found north of Franklin Island, northwest of Parry Sound.

A 67-year-old from California drowned over the weekend on Georgian Bay after a vessel capsized.

Ontario Provincial Police responded around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 to a report of a vessel that had capsized.

The OPP marine unit, along help from the joint rescue co-ordination centre, Carling Fire Department and Killbear Marina, responded to the area north of Franklin Island.

“The deceased and sole occupant of the vessel has been identified as a 67-year-old from California,” the OPP said in a news release Sept. 14.

“The vessel was removed from Georgian Bay, and the investigation is ongoing.”
