Police in northern British Columbia say a 30-year-old woman whose death was initially attributed to cardiac arrest may have met with foul play and her death is now considered suspicious.
Major crime detectives have taken conduct of the case and are working to establish a timeline of events and interactions in her final days.
The RCMP says officers were called to assist paramedics with a reported cardiac arrest at a home in the 400 block of Stuart Drive in Fort St. James on May 31.
Despite life-saving efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators publicly identified the woman Wednesday as Dayna Monk and revealed that the B.C. RCMP’s major crime unit has been investigating the death since June 10.
Police are now asking anyone with information about Monk’s activities or interactions before her death to contact authorities.
In a statement, RCMP Insp. Robert Kurtz said any information, “no matter how insignificant it may seem,” could be helpful in establishing the circumstances surrounding her death.
