The mayor of Campbellton, N.B., has died suddenly at age 75.
The Campbellton Regional Community announced in a Facebook post that Michel Soucy died at the Campbellton Regional Hospital Saturday morning.
It says Soucy was elected mayor during the community’s most recent municipal elections in May.
“Mr. Soucy had a deep love for our community and worked hard every day toward making it a better place to live, work and raise a family. His presence will be missed,” the post reads.
“The Campbellton Regional Community sends our most sincere condolences to Mr. Soucy’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”
Premier Susan Holt is also extending her condolences to the entire Campbellton community.
“Michel had a heart for his community and dedicated his life to making Campbellton a place where it is good to live. He always showed a great sense of service, a spirit of togetherness and a true love for his community,” she said.
“I think of all those who knew and loved Michel.”
Soucy was also the former mayor of Atholville, N.B., a community just west of Campbellton.
