A Montreal-area man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 77-year-old spouse.
Laval resident Ronald Thibault, 78, was scheduled to appear in court by video conference on Wednesday to face the charge.
A charge sheet identifies the victim as Monique Thibault Poirier. The document alleges Thibault killed her sometime between Sunday and Tuesday.
Laval police were called to the couple’s condo on Jean-Béraud Avenue, in Laval’s Chomedey district, on Tuesday afternoon and found them injured inside the residence.
Thibault Poirier was pronounced dead at the scene. Her partner was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries before he was questioned by investigators.

Police told CTV News on Tuesday that one of the theories investigators were examining was a possible attempted murder-suicide.
This is the second time in the last seven days that a woman in the Montreal area has been killed in her home.
Montreal police found the body of 45-year-old Leïla Ben Salem in her downtown apartment last Tuesday. No arrests have been made in that case.
