Small plane reportedly crashes into field near Fergus, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a small aircraft reportedly crashed into a field just outside of Fergus, Ont.

They said it also caught fire.

“The extent of injuries is unknown at this time,” OPP wrote in a media release.

Although a police cruiser was seen near a small family-owned airport, the police have not confirmed if the aircraft was associated with it.

However, one of the owners told CTV News the plane had been hangered at the airport, known as Fergus (Juergensen Field) Airport, and it left around 9:30 a.m. Friday. Two people were reportedly on board at the time.

The plane went down near the intersection of Beatty Line and Wellington Road 17, between Fergus and Arthur, on Friday morning.

“Transport Canada has been notified, and they’ll be conducting a thorough investigation to further determine what actually occurred,” Wellington County OPP spokesperson Carly McKeown said.
