One person is dead and four people, including a baby, were hospitalized after a crash in Edmonton that police say started as a street race.
According to police, a 2004 Yamaha YZFR6 motorcycle and a BMW were racing northbound on 97 Street from 118 Avenue at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday.
The 18-year-old man driving the motorcycle went up on a curb on the east side of 97 Street and hit a bus shelter at 120 Avenue, where multiple people were waiting for a bus, police said.
A 21-year-old man who was waiting for the bus was pronounced dead in hospital.
A 46-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman’s 10-month-old son suffered serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
They were hospitalized along with the motorcycle driver, who is charged with dangerous operation causing death and three counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
Police are looking for any information about the BMW involved in the case.
