A vehicle that has been stuck in Quebec’s Mille-Iles River for months was finally retrieved Wednesday morning.

The Terrebonne/Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines/Bois-des-Filion Police Department and the Laval Police Department worked together, with the help of a helicopter, to haul the car out of the river starting at 9 a.m.

The car became stuck there in March.
Locals have complained that Terrebonne’s waterfront park, boasting beautiful views of rapids and aquatic birds, has been sullied by the wreckage. The silver car is littered with debris, its windows are smashed, and the trunk is badly damaged.
A first attempt to pull it out in July was unsuccessful due to the strong current in the area.
“An operation of this nature involves numerous challenges that must be rigorously assessed to ensure the safety of first responders, citizens, and nearby infrastructure,” police stated in a news release.

Authorities informed residents in the surrounding area that this could cause significant noise and helicopter rotor blast.
A safety perimeter is in place, affecting traffic, particularly on Mille-Îles Blvd. in Laval.

“We understand the public’s interest in this situation. However, our priority remains the safety of everyone involved, as well as carrying out this operation under the best possible conditions,” the news release stated.
