Two sailors are safe after their boat crashed into a barge in the middle of Ontario’s Lake Joseph around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Workers on the barge pulled one of the sailors to safety, but the second was trapped underwater in the boat’s submerged pilot house.
Barge workers lashed the boat to the barge to keep it from sinking.
The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department arrived shortly after, getting a fireboat and two rescue craft into the water.
MLFD rescue swimmer spent 50 minutes in the cold water clearing debris before the second sailor was freed.
The two sailors were taken to hospital by paramedics.
