Three men have been arrested and hundreds of cannabis plants have been seized after police officers raided several farms east of Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) smuggling investigation unit, with help of police from Acton MRC, carried out the operation Wednesday in St-Théodore-d’Acton, Drummondville, and Trois-Rivières.

The operation was the result of a cannabis smuggling investigation launched this summer targeting “a criminal organization of producers operating under the cover of several Health Canada medical cannabis production certificates,” the SQ said in a news release.

More than 60 police officers searched five homes and farm fields, as well as three vehicles, and seized:

  • more than 600 cannabis plants;
  • approximately 4,299 pounds of dried cannabis buds;
  • Nearly 13 pounds of hashish;
  • approximately 480 methamphetamine tablets;
  • four vehicles as proceeds of crime.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man and two 46-year-old men in the raids. They were questioned, released, and could face charges related to cannabis smuggling, police said.
