A Nipawin man is dead following a collision Sunday afternoon at the same intersection where the Humboldt Broncos tragedy occurred the better part of a decade ago.
RCMP were called to the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 335 near Armley at around 3:40 p.m. Sunday.
An investigation found a pick-up truck travelling on Highway 35 and an SUV travelling on Highway 335 collided.
The driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old man from Nipawin, died at the scene. His family has been notified.
Highway 35, running north/south, has the right of the way, while Highway 335 features stop signs.
The man driving the truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Nipawin RCMP continue to investigate alongside a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
Sixteen were killed and 13 were injured when a rookie truck driver went through a stop sign at the intersection and into the path of the bus carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team.
Several safety measures have been added to the intersection since the crash in 2018, including the clearing of trees, the addition of rumble strips, increased lighting and signage.
