REGINA — Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says the results from last night’s U.S. midterm elections provide an opportunity for Canada to reset the relationship with its southern neighbour.

Moe, in a social media post, says Canada’s ongoing tariff war with the United States factored into last night’s vote.

In a rebuke to President Donald Trump and his Republican party, voters gave control of Congress to the Democrats.

Tariffs were a seen as a factor in races in battleground states like Maine and Michigan.

Moe says tariffs drive up the cost of living on both sides of the border and that Canada is ready to restore free and fair trade.

He says he hopes the U.S. administration is prepared to do the same.
