Roughly 50 cyclists tied up traffic at a busy downtown intersection Friday afternoon in an effort to honour a fellow cyclist who died after he was struck at the intersection earlier in the week.

The cyclists gathered at University Avenue and Richmond Street, where the man was fatally struck at around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was identified as Mike Rankin, 56, on a Facebook page promoting the makeshift memorial.

“Let’s show our love for Mike and show Toronto that we all need to watch out for each other, regardless if you are a cyclist or driver, or pedestrian,” a post on the Toronto Bike Messenger Facebook page states.

The demonstration concluded shortly after 6 p.m.
