A 65-year-old man who was found dead at the scene of a brush fire near Orangeville last week was the victim of a homicide, police say.

Officers were called to the scene east of the 10th line and Wellington Road 124 at around 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Once on scene, police say they discovered the body of a man and immediately cordoned off the area.

At first the victim’s identity was unclear but police say that they were able to identify him late Friday night as a 65-year-old man from Eastern Ontario.

According to police, their investigation so far has indicated that the victim travelled to the Erin, Ontario area on Wednesday, arriving either later in the day on Wednesday or in the early morning hours on Thursday. .

Police are not releasing the identity of the victim or the cause of death in the homicide.
