Trailer Park Boys actress Lucy DeCoutere tweeted Saturday that she has resigned from her role on the longstanding television show after a fellow cast member was charged with assault.

She told CP24 her decision to leave the show was motivated by Friday’s arrest of Mike Smith, who plays “Bubbles” on the show.

He’s been charged with a misdemeanor in connection with a Friday morning incident in Los Angeles which he described in a statement as an allegation of assault.

In an earlier tweet, DeCoutere explained why she was forced to leave the show.

DeCoutere was the only publicly named complainant in a sexual assault trial involving former CBC Radio ‘Q’ host Jian Ghomeshi. He was found not guilty of all five charges laid against him.

In a news release, both Smith and the alleged victim in the incident, Georgia Ling, say that only a heated argument took place, and that Ling tried to tell police at the scene that "there was no real issue."

"But they proceeded to arrest Mike," the news release says.

DeCoutere has played the character "Lucy" on the show since 2001.
