A celebrity stylist from southwestern Ontario is getting rave reviews after child actor Duke McCloud wore her picks to the Golden Globes and Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Lisa Marie Cameron is now based in Los Angeles, California but she was born and raised in Kitchener.

“I grew up in theatre, dance, acting, so I was around fashion, costumes my whole life growing up,” she told CTV News on Friday.

Cameron then went to Hawaii to pursue her undergraduate degree. After graduating, she returned to her hometown, where she was drawn to designing.

“I was teaching dance... I was designing dance costumes,” she recalled. “I was really getting creative and I was like, ‘I think I need to do something connected to this.’”

Cameron then applied to fashion schools around the world and landed on the Fashion Institute of Design & Management in Los Angeles.

“I got my first client about six months after moving here.”

Her first client was Alyson Stoner, a Disney Channel actor and professional dancer who starred in music videos for Missy Elliott, Eminem and Outkast.

“That just snowballed into one client after the next, after the next,” Cameron said.

Over the next 15 years, she dressed contestants from ABC’s The Bachelor franchise, stars of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on Hulu, and most recently, six-year-old Duke McCloud. He starred in Peacock’s TV series All Her Fault, alongside Dakota Fanning.

Last month, McCloud made his red-carpet debut at the Globes.

Cameron previously styled McCloud’s older brother, Dash, and their manager felt she’d be the right fit for her young client.

“With Duke, we had a lot of fun with his outfit, adding accessories, adding jewels and pocket squares, and it was really fun for him to be excited about that,” the stylist said. “When he went to the Golden Globes, it literally went viral. It was crazy how much attention he was getting with his outfit.”

Following the award show, Cameron was asked if she’d also be open to dressing him for his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“I’ve had clients on Kimmel before, but this was different, being part of the reason why he was going on,” she told CTV News.

Cameron connected with designer Tom Brown to create McCloud’s late-night ensemble. Then, in the lead up to McCloud’s talk show debut, Esquire magazine asked for a behind-the-scenes look at the styling process.

“Esquire was really interested in doing like a ‘Get Ready with Us’, so we filmed that together at the fitting. We just had a lot of fun creating another exciting look for him.”

Cameron was overwhelmed by the recognition she received for McCloud’s outfits — something every stylist dreams of.

“To know that we did [get that recognition] on that level was really amazing,” she said. “It was really exciting for me and for him to work together on this and be a part of that journey with him.”
