Two people who call Nova Scotia home picked up some golden hardware in the production design category at the 98th Academy Awards Sunday night.

Set decorator Shane Vieau of Dartmouth and production designer Tamara Deverell of Cape Breton won the Oscar for Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”

The award was handed out by actors Sigourney Weaver and Pedro Pascal.
It marked the first Oscar win for Deverell.
Vieau previously won in 2017 for his work on “The Shape of Water,” also directed by del Toro.
In their acceptance speech, Deverell gave a shout-out to those who supported them in Canada and the U.K.
“Frankenstein” also won other Oscars for makeup as well as hairstyling and costume design.
