‘Smallville’ actress Kristin Kreuk has helped write a Winnipeg-set comic book series called ‘Black Star.’

An actor best known for her work in the “Superman” universe has traded Kansas cornfields for Manitoba snowbanks.

Kristin Kreuk, who played Lana Lang in The CW’s “Smallville,” announced on social media she has co-written the Winnipeg-set comic book series “Black Star.”

“The comic is essentially the story behind the story of a group of magically inclined people who have been guarding the city of Winnipeg for years,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of herself wearing a The Peg sweatshirt.

It takes place primarily in the 1800s, Kreuk wrote, amidst “skirmishes” between the two major fur trading companies – Hudson’s Bay and North West.

It also follows a contemporary timeline of a girl who is under suspicion of a heinous crime and is being chased by police.

According to Kreuk, she and co-writers Eric Putzer and Peter Mooney dreamt up the concept while filming the television series “Burden of Truth” in Manitoba.

Mooney was Kreuk’s co-star on the legal drama that ran from 2018 to 2021 and Putzer was a writer on the series.

“It is a story of power and corruption and magic and family. And the ways in which our ideologies become muddied and our humanity diluted. Even when we have the best of intentions,” she wrote.

The first issue comes out on July 29 and is currently available for pre-order.
