‘She has her person’: Taylor Swift fans react to singer marrying Travis Kelce

Superstar Taylor Swift married Travis Kelce at a star-studded, strictly private ceremony, in one of New York’s most iconic venues. Allison Bamford reports.

For two decades, Taylor Swift fans have followed along with the singer’s love, loss and heartbreak through her music.

Today, Swifties finally got the chance to celebrate the pop star’s real life love story as she ties the knot with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“She’s been singing about love for her entire career,” Swiftie Kaleah Baker said. “It is just really exciting to see that she has now found someone that seems to match her energy and her excitement for life.”

Fans have been enchanted with the superstar couple well before their rose garden engagement last year and highly anticipated Madison Square Garden wedding made headlines.

Baker, who became a die-hard Swiftie during the pandemic, has been following every detail of the Manhattan nuptials all the way from Regina, Sask.

“I would love to see what her dress or dresses look like,” Baker told CTV News.

“Who sings at Taylor Swift’s wedding?”

It is fitting, Baker said, to see fans throwing their support behind Swift’s marriage, since the singer’s ballads have been the backdrop to weddings around the world.

“I’ve been to 25 weddings in the last five years, and 80 per cent of them had a Taylor Swift song as one of the main songs,” she said.

“Whether that be walking down the aisle or the first song that they walked into when they were announced as a couple.”

Saskatchewan’s strong ties to Swift

In 2024, the province’s Swifties set an unofficial record when they crafted the world’s longest friendship bracelet – a stunt they hoped would convince the mega star to bring her Eras Tour to Saskatchewan.

Instead, Megan Weiland said it strengthened bonds between fans and created a deeper connection with the artist.

“I think that we all feel that we are her friend,” Weiland told CTV News. “For us, we are probably more invested (in her wedding) simply because we know she is going to have a good day.”

The public knows very little about the actual festivities planned for Swift and Kelce’s wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden in the heart of Manhattan.

Police have set up barricades and closed roads outside the venue. Tents have been set up to seemingly shield the arrival of guests.

Up to 1,000 of Swift and Kelce’s friends and family are expected to attend including major A-list celebrities and sports stars.

A city permit obtained by the Associated Press shows the wedding event was set to start at 5 p.m. EST on Friday and could last until 4 a.m.

Some reports suggest the couple got married before the New York City celebration in a small intimate ceremony.

Swifties believe the bride and groom will reveal details of the wedding when they are ready.

For now, Weiland says the couple deserves their privacy.

“I think we should honour that,” she said. “If we need gates and guards to do all of that, then that is what we need.”

Amid all the speculation, Weiland believes one thing is certain.

“(Taylor) has her person,” she said, offering one piece of advice to the groom.

“Travis, don’t fumble our girl.”
