Quebec actor Marc Messier, best known for his roles in “Lance et Compte,” “Broue” and “La Petite Vie,” has died at the age of 78.
“It is with deep regret that we announce today the passing of the great actor Marc Messier at the age of 78, following a brief illness,” a statement shared on social media read.
“He is survived by his immediate family, his children Gabrielle Dubuc-Messier, Félix Messier, and Jeanne Messier; his sisters Marielle Messier and Denise Messier; Lyne Sainte-Marie (mother of Félix and Jeanne); and his nephews and nieces,” the statement added.
Born in 1947, he left a mark on the history of Quebec television and film. He notably starred in the series “Lance et Compte,” in the “Les Boys” franchise, and in the iconic role of Réjean in “La Petite Vie.”
He also co-wrote the script for the play “Broue,” in which he performed for 35 years.
Most recently, he played the role of Pop in the series “Bienvenue à Kingston-Falls.”
The announcement of the actor’s death sparked a flood of tributes. Premier Christine Fréchette took to social media to offer her condolences to the family.
“Like so many Quebecers, he was one of my favourite actors. He had that rare talent for making us laugh, moving us, and bringing us together. His work and his legacy will continue to live on in our collective memory,” she wrote on social media.
