Canadian soccer fans who packed bars early on Sunday to take in the World Cup finale found themselves at the edge of their seats amid the close game between France and Argentina.

The match ended in a 2-2 tie after regulation play, sending the championship game into extra time.

At Cafe Diplomatico in Central Toronto, fans packed a tent on the street with rows of chairs and tuned in via a huge screen set up across the back wall.

Fans sat tensely and stared at the screen as they waited for the extra time to get underway.

In Montreal, fans began lining up in front of downtown bars on St-Denis Street around 7 a.m.

Crowds there erupted in cheers during the second half when France erased Argentina's early two-goal lead to tie the game.
