Firefighters are on the scene of a two-alarm fire at a residential building on Davenport Road near Perth Avenue.

Crews responded after a call came in shortly before 10:30 p.m. about flames coming from the second floor of the three-storey building.

Firefighters said it appeared everyone had been safely evacuated from the building and that no one had been hurt.

By 10:45 p.m. the fire had been knocked down, Toronto Fire said.

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the second-floor window as crews worked to ventilate the building.

“It’s very hot in there as usual, which is the greatest challenge,” Fire Chief Norm Clements told CP24 at the scene. “Once (firefighters) get it ventilated it starts to cool down for them.”

Davenport Road was closed off between Laughton Avenue and Symington Avenue because of the fire. Firefighters on scene said they expected the road to reopen shortly.

“Any fire like this (damage) is pretty serious, much more extensive than you’d first imagine,” Clements said.

Clements said the fire started in the bedroom, though it`s still not clear how the fire started.
