The bus that has been dubbed the ‘Liberty Village Express,’ made its inaugural run Monday morning just weeks after the crowd-funding transit project was launched.

The pilot project, which aims to provide an alternative to commuters who don’t want to ride the congested King streetcar, began today and will run for the rest of the week.

During the trial period, passengers can board the bus, which provides chartered one-way morning service from the west-end neighbourhood to Union Station, for a minimum donation of $25.

This morning, there were three eastbound runs starting at 7 a.m. and one of the project’s cofounders, Taylor Scollon, said he was encouraged by the response.

“People were really excited about the bus. They were willing to sort of put their money where they mouth is and get this bus running,” Scollon said.

If successful, the pilot project will be turned into a permanent weekday service.
