HUNTSVILLE, Ont. -- Animal protection authorities have charged a Huntsville, Ont., man after his pet lion tried to escape its enclosure.

The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the central Ontario municipality has no rules governing exotic pets.

But it notes provincial laws require wildlife held in captivity be kept in a secure pen.

The OSPCA says the lion has since been moved to a facility where it can be properly housed.

It says the case was flagged by provincial police.
