A man who was charged after a woman’s remains were found behind an east-end butcher shop last spring is now facing an additional charge of second-degree murder in connection with the case.
Police identified a torso found inside a garbage bag outside a Riverdale butcher shop as belonging to 30-year-old Toronto resident Melissa Cooper.
The woman was reported missing several weeks before her remains were found.
Less than two weeks later, investigators announced they had arrested a suspect and charged him with committing an indignity to a dead body.
Now police say that same suspect, identified as 38-year-old Albert Ian Ohab, was charged again Friday morning.
Investigators have not said what led them to lay the additional charge.
He appeared in court briefly this morning.
