A man was taken to hospital overnight Sunday after being struck by a taxi on The Queensway.

It happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. when police arrived on The Queensway near Parklawn Avenue to attend to a taxi that had activated its amber light emergency system.

As the attending officer exited his vehicle, he was approached by a 26-year-old man who was walking in lanes of live traffic on The Queensway. Before the man reached the officer, he was struck by an eastbound taxi.

The man was then taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

It was not clear why the man was approaching the officer or why he was walking in traffic. Traffic services are investigating the incident.
