TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up more than 150 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the technology sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 167.90 points at 35,018.11.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 43.41 points at 51,964.03. The S&P 500 index was down 1.02 points at 7,356.47, while the Nasdaq composite was down 37.16 points at 25,321.44.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.46 cents US compared with 70.40 cents US on Thursday.
The August crude oil contract was down US$3.27 at US$68.65 per barrel.
The August gold contract was up US$45.30 at US$4,092.90 an ounce.
