TORONTO -- Metrolinx says thousands of people's commutes are delayed because a train is blocking all of the tracks on the line that travels from Kitchener, Ont., to Toronto.
Spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins says the train, which was carrying equipment, became stuck sometime before 6 a.m. Wednesday due to a broken switch on the tracks.
She says crews are working as fast as they can to fix the problem, but it's taking longer than she had hoped.
Aikins says more than 10,000 people are affected by the delays, so it won't be possible to transport them on buses.
She says trains are being routed through the Barrie corridor, but Metrolinx says commutes could take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes longer than usual.
Aikins says the issue is west of Malton Station, so the Union Pearson Express -- which uses a section of the Kitchener Line -- is not affected.
