VINELAND, Ont. -- The Niagara Falls Fire Department says it's saddened by the death of one of its members while off duty.

In a Twitter post, it says Capt. Tim Vail was a 20-year member of the fire department and will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him.

Niagara Regional Police say Vail's body was found on Tuesday night in Vineland, Ont., following a report of a missing person.

Investigators say the 48-year-old Lincoln, Ont., resident had been walking his dogs in the area earlier in the day.

Police say the circumstances of Vail's death remain under investigation.

The fire department says Vail is survived by his wife and two children.
