Peel Regional Police say there are "obvious similarities" between body parts discovered in Mississauga and Toronto in the last week.

At a news conference Monday, Peel police Sgt. Pete Brandwood confirmed remains found over the weekend in Toronto are human, and investigators believe there is be a connection to body parts found in Mississauga since last Wednesday.

Police would not explain the similarities between the remains.

Despite the similarities, police still cannot conclude that all the body parts are from the same female victim, although they believe that is the case, until it is confirmed through forensic testing.

A source told CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry police have found a head, foot, arm, two hands and two calves.

As for the identity of the victim, Brandwood said police are "pretty close" to figuring out who the person is. Officers have been looking at missing person cases to find out if there is a link to the victim.

Brandwood said police plan to end their search of Hewick Meadows Park, now in its sixth day, Monday night after scouring the heavily-wooded park and the Credit River daily since a foot was found in the river last Wednesday.

In their search for more body parts, officers found a woman's head and two hands in a section of river that runs through the park.

Police previously said the right foot had yellow nail polish on its toenails.

In Scarborough, part of what appeared to be a human leg was found along West Highland Creek, near Kennedy Road and Sheppard Avenue East, on Saturday, while a bag containing “fleshy” material was found by a Toronto Star reporter Sunday.

Police have not revealed the nature of the remains found in Scarborough.

Foul play is suspected, but police cannot rule the death a homicide until the cause of death is confirmed, Brandwood said.
