At least four people escaped serious injury when flames tore through part of a house in Vaughan early Tuesday morning.

Everyone got out of the Fermar Drive home safely after the two-alarm fire broke out sometime before 4:20 a.m.

Firefighters rescued a pet cat as they swept through the burning house and doused the flames, which started in the garage before spreading to the interior of the residence, near Drummond Drive and Keele Street.

The fire's cause is under investigation.

A damage estimate was not available.
