One man is dead and another is in hospital following a double stabbing in East York late Monday afternoon.

It happened in the Danforth Avenue and Main Street area shortly after 5 p.m.

According to police, two men were located in the area with life-threatening injuries after officers responded to reports of a fight.

“Our information, it’s preliminary, is that there was an altercation between several males just on the street,” Toronto police Sgt. David Dube told reporters at the scene.

“I guess it escalated and some knives were taken out and two people (were) stabbed.”

Both victims were transported to hospital, where one later died. The other man remains in hospital.

No information on suspects has been provided by police.

Police continue to investigate at the scene.
