A 55-year-old woman struck by a stolen vehicle in midtown Friday afternoon will be released from hospital later tonight, Toronto police say.

Police began pursuing the Mercedes after a theft at a Winners location in the Laird Drive and Eglinton Avenue East area at around 1:30 p.m.

The vehicle struck the woman on Yonge Street north of Eglinton Avenue a short time later.

The suspects, a man and a woman, then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

They were last seen running northbound on Avenue Road.

The victim was rushed to hospital, but sustained only minor injuries.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle is a man in his 40s who is known to police.

Officers are now searching areas where he is known to frequent.

No information on the female suspect has been provided by police.

Police expect to release more information on Saturday.
