A personal support worker in Oakville has been charged with assault after the family of a youth contacted police following a series of recent incidents.
The alleged assaults happened at the victim’s home while they were in the care of the accused, Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) said in a news release.
Police said that they launched an investigation into the complaint earlier this month.
On April 19, a suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm.
The accused was an employee of ParaMed Home Health Care Services at the time of the alleged offences.
In a statement provided to CP24.com, a spokesperson for ParaMed Home Health Care Services said that the accused was “immediately removed from active service” when the allegations first came to light on April 14.
ParaMed Home Health Care Services said that the accused has since been terminated.
“Patients and families place considerable trust in the caregivers they welcome into their homes. We are saddened that this trust was not respected by this PSW and we have apologized for this failure. We remain in regular contact with the patients’ family during this painful and challenging time,” the statement notes.
“We are also committed to working with the Halton Regional Police Service to provide our full support to their investigation. We will assist in any and every way we can.”
The suspect has been identified by police as 45-year-old Parmjit Kaur Uppal.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and have released a photo of Uppal.
