Police say they have found a pickup truck with a Rottweiler inside, stolen from a parking lot in Vaughan on Tuesday night in an apparent “warm-up theft.”

York Regional Police say that just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a man left his 2009 Honda Ridgeline running outside a convenience store in the area of Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road.

His two-year-old Rottweiler was sitting in the truck’s back seat.

When he returned from the store, the truck and dog were gone.

About two-and-a-half hours later, police found the truck and dog abandoned in a plaza near Martin Grove and Silverstone Drive, about 3 kilometres south of where the vehicle was taken.

Police continue to warn motorists not to leave their vehicles running unattended.
