Police are asking for the public’s assistance in helping to identify a homicide victim whose torso was found in the lower Niagara River earlier this week.

Officers are trying to figure out who killed the woman after passersby spotted the torso near the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls on Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe the torso - its head, arms and legs severed - had been in the water for up to 10 days.

Police have not said if additional body parts have been found.

Niagara Regional Police said the woman is white and middle-aged, and she had a pierced belly button and at least one C-section scar.

Officers are looking at reports of missing people to find out if there is a link to the gruesome discovery.
