CHATHAM-KENT, Ont. -- Police say a car clocked at more than 200 kilometres per hour on Highway 401 in southwestern Ontario was carrying two children who weren't properly strapped into their child seats.

Provincial traffic police say they stopped the vehicle after a traffic patrol observed a driver going at 212 km/h just before 2 p.m. Monday near the municipality of Chatham-Kent.

They say the vehicle continued to travel at high speeds even after cruisers were set up to stop it.

Police say a three-year-old boy and six-year-old girl were passengers in the car but not correctly secured in their child car seats.

A 29-year-old Toronto woman is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, racing a motor vehicle and two counts of failure to ensure a toddler is properly secured.

The woman's licence has been suspended for a week and the vehicle has been impounded.
