Toronto police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of a man wanted for allegedly shooting 27-year-old Kabil Abdulkhadir dead outside a downtown hotel on Aug. 9.

Abdulkhadir was with friends outside the Marriott Hotel on Bay Street, south of Dundas Street, when he was shot and killed at about 2:45 a.m.

A second man is wanted for various firearms offences after allegedly shooting at the murder suspect’s getaway car, a rented blue Hyundai Elantra, Toronto police Det. Sgt. Joyce Schertzer told reporters at a news conference Friday afternoon.

Schertzer said there was a “pre-existing dispute” between Abdullkhadir and the suspect, and the exchange of gunfire was not gang related.

Twenty-five-year-old Mohamud Abdwali Dirie of Toronto is wanted for first-degree murder. Hassan Abdulee, also of Toronto, is wanted for discharging a firearm, as well as robbery, assault and forcible confinement charges stemming from an unrelated incident.

A third man, Abdullahi Alifarah, 20, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

“This remains a very active investigation and is very fluid,” Schertzer said.

Schertzer says investigators reviewed a large amount of security camera footage to assist in the investigation, and have received little help from those who were present that night.

“We’re hoping individuals who were in the company of (Abdulkhadir) that night will come forward to police,” Schertzer said.

She warned that anyone suspected of aiding Dirie will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The accused’s brother, Mohamed Abdiwal Dirie, was one of two men shot and killed June 29 in a condominium suite near Queen Street West and Dovercourt Road.

Police do not believe Abdulkhadir’s murder was in retaliation for the suspect’s brother’s death.

Investigators say Dirie should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about this murder is asked to contact homicide investigators at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-(TIPS) 8477.
